The Seattle pharmacy is tucked beneath a Vancouver office tower; the tunnels are in an old copper mine; Jackson was rebuilt near Squamish. To explore the season 2 filming locations for The Last of Us, plan three days around Vancouver. Calgary and Canmore can be visited as a separate extension, following the trail of season 1.

The geography of the two seasons

The trip begins with a distinction that affects your bookings. Most of the documented season 2 locations are in British Columbia, around Vancouver. Alberta, meanwhile, provides many season 1 locations: Calgary stands in for streets in Boston and Kansas City, while Canmore represents Jackson. For season 2, Jackson was recreated in the Squamish area.

Vancouver is therefore the right base for finding the Seattle façades, forest and mining museum. Three days let you spread them out without turning every stop into a race to take photos. The first two are urban; the third follows the Sea-to-Sky Highway to Britannia Beach. The suggested times below are planning estimates; add travel time from your accommodation.

Some locations correspond to an interior, others to a façade or an environment. This difference determines what you will recognize on site: the streets have returned to normal traffic, the theatre hosts performances and the filming props are gone. The itinerary focuses on public spaces and venues open to visitors, without revealing the series’ major plot twists.

Day 1: Seattle façades

The West Hastings area offers an easy first comparison between fiction and the real city. At 1066 West Hastings Street, Oceanic Plaza served as the exterior of a Seattle pharmacy. The production used the storefront façade beneath the building. From the public space, look at the proportions of the plaza, the walkways and the towers’ volumes rather than expecting to find a shop preserved exactly as it appeared on screen.

The block at 1000 West Hastings also appears in a scene showing W.L.F. soldiers on the move. These nearby addresses make it possible to see how a few street changes and a tight camera frame transform an office district. Allow about an hour for this first stop, with extra time to find the angles without blocking entrances or crossing outside designated crossings.

Continue toward Coal Harbour and Harbour Green Park. The public pier featured in a boarding scene; Destination Vancouver notes that filming combined this real dock with a replica and studio technical setups. On site, part of the appeal is the contrast with the fiction: pleasure boats, the promenade and the North Shore mountains make up a lively waterfront.

After a lunch break, head to Gastown. East Cordova Street was dressed for the series with vegetation and set vehicles. Allow time for a walk among the historic façades, staying on accessible public streets. The alleys are also workplaces: let deliveries through and skip a vantage point if access is closed.

This day brings together identified locations without requiring a long list of addresses. With breaks, allow a generous half-day to a relaxed full day. If you want to continue to Chinatown, leave time for the neighbourhood itself: its history and shops offer a different way to understand these streets than their role as a set alone.

The Hollywood North guided tour

A guide can help you understand how a street is transformed, rather than having to make comparisons on your phone. The Hollywood North Film & TV Tour lasts about three hours on foot, with a local actor as guide and video clips on a tablet. It starts at Robson Square and ends at Waterfront Station; the route passes through Chinatown and Gastown, among other areas.

The tour is in English and covers several productions filmed in Vancouver, including Deadpool and The X-Files. It suits travellers who want to put The Last of Us in the context of a broader film-focused activity. The stops and productions advertised by the operator determine what you see on the booked tour; this article’s self-guided route lets you focus on season 2 locations.

To fit it in, replace part of the first day’s urban walk with the tour, then save Coal Harbour for late afternoon. This way, you avoid immediately revisiting the same neighbourhoods. Meals and private transport are separate; wear shoes suitable for three hours of walking and check the exact meeting point on your confirmation.

Day 2: Stanley Park and the Orpheum

Stanley Park’s forest was used for several sequences in season 2. It lets you recapture the visual texture of the journey: closely spaced trunks, undergrowth, and dense vegetation, right next to the city center. For the morning, choose a walk on open, marked trails, with an easy exit toward the waterfront.

The tourism office confirms the park was used for episode 3 but says it does not know the precise trail. It is therefore more worthwhile to spend about two hours in the forest than to search uncertainly for a few meters of ground. Download the map before you leave, respect closures, and adapt the loop to your group. A short walk is enough to take in this environment without setting out on a strenuous hike.

The Vancouver Aquarium, located in the park, provided interiors for the series’ Seattle aquarium. Add a visit if you are also interested in the exhibits: that gives you a real reason to spend time there and buy a ticket. The spaces visible during a visit follow the aquarium’s normal operations; no filming-location route is announced here. If you visit the aquarium, lighten the rest of the day’s schedule.

The second major landmark is the Orpheum, whose interior stands in for the theater in the fiction. This venue, which opened in 1927, retains the grandeur of a traditional theater, with staircases, a domed auditorium, and a chandelier. Its status as a performing arts venue matters more for planning than its appearance on screen: you need to time your visit to coincide with an actual announced opportunity to enter.

Public entrances are at 601 Smithe Street and 884 Granville Street. Check the schedules of Vancouver Civic Theatres and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. A performance you enjoy lets you experience the venue in use; plan a heritage tour only if a date is offered. Keep the evening free before buying tickets for another commitment, and check the performance’s photography rules.

Day 3: Britannia Mine Museum

Britannia Mine Museum is the most structured stop on this trip: the historic site was used for mine scenes in season 2 and offers an organized tour. Its address, 150 Copper Drive in Britannia Beach, is on the Sea-to-Sky route, south of Squamish. Book your tour option and time slot first, then plan the day around that time.

The museum offers two tickets. General Admission: Underground and BOOM! includes a 75-minute guided experience, with an underground train ride and the BOOM! show in Mill No. 3. Museum Site Including BOOM! provides access to the site and the show, but does not include a guided underground train tour. To explore the mining environment that inspired this trip, choose the underground option if it suits the members of your group.

Beyond its role as a filming location, the museum explains copper mining and life in Britannia Beach. The large concentrator structure helps convey the industrial scale of the site; the exhibits and historic buildings round out the guided portion. The museum recommends allowing between an hour and a half and three hours on site. Allow the full amount if you want time to read and explore.

Arrive with time to spare for parking and check-in, rather than just in time for the tour’s departure. The museum strongly recommends booking. Check the hours and ticket options for your date, particularly around holidays and early closures. Leaving Vancouver early gives you more flexibility to have lunch and return without rushing to finish the day.

A short visit to Squamish can extend the outing afterward, depending on the weather and your transport. The Sea-to-Sky Gondola offers another scenic activity, which you can plan separately if you want to spend time there. It provides views of the region; it is not an entrance to Jackson’s set.

Stairs, structural framing, and an ore cart inside the historic concentrator at Britannia Mine Museum.

Jackson and the private sets

The streets of Jackson in season 2 were built for filming in the Squamish area. Destination Vancouver says this set is not open to visitors. So do not plan on buying a ticket, stopping at a gate, or trying to find access from the surrounding area. The museum and the landscapes of Howe Sound are the accessible stops for this day.

The same guidance applies to other locations that are often mentioned. The house used in Mission is on private property. The building converted into Greenplace Market near Kamloops is not a themed store open to fans. These details can save you from detours that would take up a large part of your trip, only for you to find that there is no way to visit once you arrive.

Canmore remains an interesting option for seeing the first season’s Jackson again, in a different urban and mountain setting. However, it requires a separate leg of your trip in Alberta. A map of the series’ locations may bring these names together easily; your bookings must account for provinces, transport, and the time you actually have available.

Additional stops around Vancouver

New Westminster is a good choice for an additional half-day. Its city hall was used for a scene depicting a community meeting. The interior of this filming location is not open to visitors as part of this itinerary, but the heritage streets and Fraser River waterfront make for a worthwhile excursion. The Expo Line connects downtown Vancouver with New Westminster; use TransLink to plan your local journey from there.

Mount Seymour calls for a different choice, based on your interest in the mountains. Forest scenes from season 2 were filmed there, including the flashback episode about Joel and Ellie. The park offers trails of varying difficulty. The series’ props are not permanent attractions, and the general location given as the mountain range does not provide a marked route to every shot.

Before you go, check BC Parks for conditions, access, and equipment. In winter, a vehicle access pass may be required, and mountain hazards call for appropriate preparation. In late October or November, make this decision based on actual conditions. For a short trip focused mainly on the city, Stanley Park is an easier fit in the schedule.

Nanaimo is for travelers extending their trip to Vancouver Island. Commercial Street stood in for part of Seattle in season 2. This detour adds a ferry crossing and its schedule; it fits better as part of an overnight stop on the island than on a day already occupied by Britannia Museum. Choose it to discover Nanaimo as well as recognize a street.

The Calgary and Canmore extension

If your trip already includes Alberta, Calgary lets you revisit several locations from the first season. Travel Alberta identifies downtown and Inglewood, among other places, as locations used for Boston. A neighborhood walk is enough to connect the architecture with the series while letting buildings and businesses operate as usual. Production facilities and public buildings are not open to visitors solely because filming took place there in the past.

Fish Creek Provincial Park offers a more scenic stop: the Shannon Terrace footbridge appears on the characters’ route to Bill’s property. Choose this walk if you would like to visit a park during your stay in Calgary. Check current access before selecting your starting point, and size the outing for the area you plan to visit rather than the entire park.

In Canmore, Main Street and the Engine Bridge are the two landmarks to prioritize for the first season. The town stood in for Jackson; the bridge over the Bow River and the Rocky Mountain backdrop bring continuity to the walk. Set aside a day from your Alberta base, or stay overnight if Canmore is the start of a longer mountain trip.

To organize the whole trip, separate your bookings: Vancouver and Britannia first, then the transfer to Alberta, followed by Calgary and Canmore. A three-day stay in Vancouver does not leave a reasonable amount of time for this extension. If you have only a few extra days, choose the locations that interest you most and leave time to discover the cities beyond the series.

Transportation and bookings

The two days in Vancouver are planned on foot and by public transit. The Canada Line serves YVR Airport; Waterfront is a useful transfer point downtown. Choosing accommodation with good transit connections cuts down on travel without requiring you to stay near a filming location. Check the route from your arrival point with your luggage before settling on an address.

A car becomes a consideration for Britannia Beach and trips outside the city center. If you rent one, group your outings within the period you need it rather than paying for several days of parking in the city. Without a car, first identify a transit connection or excursion that actually serves the museum on your chosen date. An outing that is simply named Squamish may have a different itinerary.

For your budget, distinguish between free walks, chosen admissions, transport, and any guided tour. Offer listings display their key commercial details; check museum tickets and performances on their official pages. Prioritize booking a time slot at Britannia and an evening at the Orpheum, then arrange the other visits around them. Days 1 and 2 can be swapped depending on the rain and the schedule.

A mobile connection makes it easier to check schedules, send messages, and confirm bookings during your time in Vancouver and any extension to Alberta. If your plan does not cover Canada adequately, a 10 GB Airalo plan for fifteen days can serve this itinerary and an Alberta extension. It requires an eSIM-compatible, unlocked phone. Also download maps and tickets before you leave: in the mountains, network availability is no substitute for offline preparation.

When to go

For a combination of city walks and a coastal outing, May to September offers a convenient window to plan around, subject to the conditions that year. Vancouver remains a possible destination the rest of the year, thanks to its neighborhoods, museum, and performances. In autumn, bring waterproof clothing, a warm layer, and shoes suitable for spending several hours outdoors.

The snow in the series is not a guide to the tourist calendar: sets may be dressed for a scene. A winter stay in Vancouver and an outing to a snow-covered mountain range require two different plans. Keep mountain days optional, check advisories before setting out, and finish forest walks before the light fades. The city itinerary still offers plenty to do if conditions require you to stay in town.

FAQ

Where was The Last of Us season 2 filmed?

Locations documented by Destination Vancouver are spread across Vancouver, Squamish, Britannia Beach, New Westminster, Mount Seymour, Mission, Kamloops, and Nanaimo, among other places. For a first trip, Vancouver is the most practical base: city neighborhoods and Stanley Park are right there, followed by a dedicated visit to Britannia Mine Museum. Some sets are private or closed to the public.

Can you visit the town of Jackson?

The Jackson set built in the Squamish area for season 2 is not open to visitors. To see streets used as Jackson in the first season, you can choose Canmore, Alberta. This is a separate extension to the trip, requiring its own transport and time on location.

Do you need to rent a car in Vancouver?

The two proposed days in the city can be done on foot and by public transit. Renting a car is mainly justified for Britannia Beach or additional outings. Before booking a visit to the museum without a car, check that a round-trip option fits your time slot and the amount of time you want to spend there. The SkyTrain does not serve Britannia Beach.

Which ticket should you choose for Britannia Mine Museum?

The General Admission: Underground and BOOM! option includes the underground train and the show in a 75-minute guided experience. Museum Site Including BOOM! focuses on the site and the show, without the underground train. Allow between an hour and a half and three hours in total at the museum, and book the option that suits your group.

Is the Hollywood North tour dedicated to The Last of Us?

It covers several movies and TV series filmed in Vancouver. The listing consulted describes a three-hour walking tour in English, with an actor guide and video clips. Its value lies in explaining how neighborhoods are used for filming. To focus on confirmed The Last of Us locations, supplement it with the independent stops on this itinerary.

How can you see inside the Orpheum?

Check the schedules of Vancouver Civic Theatres and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra to choose a performance. Heritage tours depend on the dates actually offered. The theater's appearance in the series does not grant free access to the auditorium; entry and photography rules remain those of the event you book.

Are three days enough for Vancouver and Calgary?

Three days are suitable for the Vancouver, Stanley Park, and Britannia Beach itinerary. Calgary and Canmore require a separate part of the trip, plus the transfer between provinces. If season 2 is your priority, spend those three days in British Columbia; add Alberta for its specific first-season locations and your interest in the Rockies.

Can you follow this itinerary in winter?

City and cultural stops remain possible, subject to seasonal opening hours and suitable clothing. Trips to Mount Seymour require specific winter preparation: check trail conditions, equipment, access, and avalanche risk. You can keep the trip without this mountain option by spending more time in the neighborhoods and visiting indoor attractions.
