A medina to explore with a guide, an alpine lake to settle beside, villages among the vineyards, or a day in the fjords: these trips for two call for very different plans. Here are five destinations to compare based on the season, what you enjoy, and how much time you really want to spend on the road.
The right trip for you
When planning a trip for two, the first decision is often about the everyday details: will you have breakfast in the same place, will you need to drive every morning, and will you feel like walking after a visit? These details matter just as much as the photo that made you want to go. A well-chosen base lets you share an activity and then enjoy some free time, without packing up again.
Fez works well for a short stay focused on alleyways, workshops and meals. The inland Alentejo calls for more travel between villages and wineries. Bohinj is ideal for spending several days near the lake, choosing outings according to the weather. In Cappadocia, the balloon ride means a very early start; in Iceland’s Westfjords, roads and outdoor conditions shape the itinerary.
The recommended lengths of stay here are planning suggestions: around three or four nights in Fez, four to six in the Alentejo or Bohinj, three or four in Cappadocia, and preferably five to seven in the Westfjords if you are making them the focus of your trip. Add travel days from your starting point. Four nights at your destination leave you with very different flexibility from four days that include two travel legs.
Seasons in the five destinations
For walking and sightseeing, we recommend spring and autumn in Fez, the inland Alentejo and Cappadocia. Summer is still an option if you adapt your plans to the heat and head out early in the day. Choosing a comfortable room and taking breaks nearby become especially important then.
In Bohinj, late spring, summer and early autumn are better suited to a stay focused on the lakeshore, boat trips and outdoor activities. Check high-altitude trail conditions separately: a lakeside walk tells you nothing about snow conditions in the mountains. In winter, plan a different itinerary, with suitable clothing and travel arrangements based on the services available.
For a first road trip in the Westfjords, we recommend summer. The region can also be visited at other times of year, but road conditions, daylight hours and open services become decisive factors. In its check in late October 2026, the regional tourist office had announced, among other things, the seasonal closure of the Bolafjall road. So a summer list of scenic spots cannot simply be carried over to November.
Fez, between the medina and your riad
In Fez, you can plan your stay around the medina of Fès el-Bali and accommodation you will enjoy returning to between outings. Bab Boujloud is a useful landmark and entrance, while the Nejjarine area and the tanneries are reasons to explore several parts of the old city. The shops and workshops are part of a lively neighbourhood; ask permission before photographing work or people.
We would set aside your first half-day for a guided introduction, then use a second day to revisit the places you would like to see at a more leisurely pace. That gives you a chance to ask about crafts and architecture early on, without spending every walk trying to find your way. Jnan Sbil garden, listed among the places to visit by the Moroccan tourist office, offers a change of atmosphere in an otherwise very urban itinerary.
The selected private tour lasts four hours and offers a guide in French, English or Arabic. It includes Bab Boujloud, the Bou Inania area, Nejjarine and a view of the Chouara tannery. Monument admission and meals are separate. Confirm the meeting point at your riad: pickup in the medina and a road transfer from a distant neighbourhood require different arrangements.
For three or four nights, one accommodation is generally enough for the stay we suggest. Before booking, check access from the luggage drop-off point, the stairs and whether there is a comfortable indoor space. An appealing terrace is no substitute for a room suited to cool evenings. Leave one evening free of distant bookings so you can dine near your base.

View activityThe Alentejo: villages and talha wines
The Alentejo covers a vast area south of the Tagus, with an Atlantic coastline and a rural interior. For this trip for two, we focus on the towns and villages inland: Évora for walks and monuments, followed by a few outings into the countryside. The coast can be the focus of another trip; adding it by default increases travel distances and changes the pace.
In Évora, the Roman temple, the cathedral and Praça do Giraldo offer a range of sights that you can spread across several visits. Staying in town makes it easy to walk back after dinner. A rural accommodation will suit you better if you’re looking for time on site, provided you check meal options and the distance to the activities you book.
Fortified villages, including Monsaraz, can round out this itinerary. Choose outings within the same area instead of trying to fit every beautiful stop in the region into one day. Travel times shown by a route planner include neither stops, parking searches nor time spent sightseeing. Over four to six nights, two well-chosen excursions already leave you with several different days.
In Vila de Frades, the Cella Vinaria Antiqua winery museum offers an introduction to vinho de talha, made in large clay jars. The selected experience combines a tour with a tasting of four wines and accompaniments. It lasts an hour and a half and, depending on the option, is offered in Portuguese, English or Spanish, with a meeting point on site.
This outing is worthwhile for a couple curious about production methods and the differences between wines. Arrange your return before you taste: have a non-drinking driver, agree on transport or stay nearby. A tasting reservation does not automatically include transport from Évora. If you’re not very interested in wine, spend that half-day on monuments and countryside instead of booking a tasting just for the sake of it.

View activityBohinj, several days by the lake
Bohinj lets you build a trip around one central place: the lake, in the Julian Alps. The destination office describes it as Slovenia’s largest permanent natural lake. Its shores, panoramic boat and water activities offer several ways to discover the landscape without changing accommodation every day.
For four to six nights, we would spread the trip across a lakeside walk, an outing suited to your ability and a day with plenty of free time. Kayaking or canoeing on the lake can be a shared activity in the warmer months, with suitable equipment and instruction. The Sava Bohinjka River has different conditions: book the activity that actually matches the environment you want to explore.
Accommodation choices here depend a lot on getting around. A place near a useful bus stop can make a car-free stay easier; if you stay somewhere isolated, check how you’ll get to dinner and to activity departure points. Local transport includes regular routes and seasonal services. Check the schedules for your dates, including the return journey, before deciding to leave your rental car behind.
The destination office encourages visitors staying in accommodation to leave their vehicle with their host and use organized transport. Mobility cards have their own eligibility rules and benefits; ask your host which ones apply to your booking. If you arrive by car, plan for authorized parking as well. Beside a very popular lake, where you park is part of the day.
Bohinj is our pick if you enjoy walking together but don’t want a major guided excursion every morning. You don’t need to book any activities to follow this suggestion: time by the water and walks chosen according to conditions are at its heart.
Cappadocia, balloons and valleys
The rock formations and cave dwellings give Cappadocia a distinctive setting for a few days as a couple. We would choose one base around Göreme, with a morning set aside for a balloon ride and other moments for walking, sightseeing or enjoying your accommodation. An early pre-dawn start is a good reason to keep the rest of the day light.
The selected hot-air balloon ride includes transfers from the hotels it serves and an English-speaking guide. The advertised total duration is two and a half hours, which includes more than just time in the basket. The listing describes about an hour of flight time. This is a shared experience; if privacy in the basket is essential for your occasion, look for an option explicitly described as private.
Schedule your first flight attempt early in your stay and keep another morning free. Weather conditions can lead to cancellations; the operator will need to confirm a new place and departure time. Choose your room for its comfort, access and amenities too. The label “cave hotel” alone tells you nothing about the lighting, ventilation or number of steps.
For a shorter activity, the Turkish coffee-on-sand workshop in Göreme takes place on the terrace of the Nomads Cave Hotel. You prepare coffee in a cezve, choose the sugar level, then taste it while an English-speaking host explains the process. Fortune-telling from the grounds is optional; decaf can be requested. The meeting point is on site, and the workshop lasts one hour.
This second booking fits into an afternoon without requiring another day of travel. For more sightseeing ideas and valleys to explore, our three-day Cappadocia guide goes into local planning in detail. Here, the destination differs most from the other trips in its early starts and the need to leave room for weather changes.

View activityThe Westfjords, roads and hot springs
In the Westfjords, fishing villages, fjords and waterfalls make for a trip where driving takes up a significant amount of time. Ísafjörður is one possible base for part of your stay. For five to seven nights, choose a few areas that fit together; the fjords’ winding shape makes comparisons based only on straight-line distances misleading.
Dynjandi is one of the region’s major outings. The main waterfall drops about one hundred metres, with other falls along the approach. The destination office estimates a walk of around fifteen minutes from the parking area to the main waterfall: allow time for stops and check trail conditions. This estimate is not a guarantee that the path is accessible to all visitors.
The selected private tour offers a day without driving, departing from Ísafjörður with an English-speaking guide and a vehicle. It lasts between four and seven hours. The itinerary can be adapted; agree on your priority stops and pick-up point before booking. Dynjandi, the villages and viewpoints described in the listing are not a promise that you’ll see them all on the shortest option. Lunch is separate.
Choosing a location for the hot springs matters too. The Drangsnes hot pots are along the shoreline in the village. Krossnes has a pool facing the ocean, but the destination office puts it more than two hours by road from Hólmavík and Drangsnes. Adding it as a quick stop between two sights can turn it into the focus of the entire day.
These bathing spots are shared with other visitors and local residents. Bring a swimsuit, towel and clothes that are easy to put back on, and check the access conditions for your chosen site. For a trip for two, a single swim that fits your route gives you more time than trying to visit a collection of far-flung pools.

Compare the total cost for two people over the same length of stay: transport to the destination, accommodation, meals, local transportation, and activities. A private vehicle may be priced per group, a tasting per participant, and a room per night. Amounts can only be compared after checking the unit, currency, and included services. Booking cards bring together the available commercial details without repeating them in the itinerary.
Book first the things that shape the stay: getting to the destination, accommodation, and the priority activity. In Bohinj, check transportation before choosing a place to stay; in the Westfjords, compare the itinerary with roads that are passable; in Cappadocia, keep possible balloon mornings free. A short activity can then fill a time slot while leaving the rest of the day open.
Before paying, double-check the language, exact meeting point, total duration, separately charged admission, and cancellation terms. Keep half a day unplanned for the weather, fatigue, or a place where you want to linger. This flexibility lets you adjust the itinerary together without giving up an important booking.
FAQ
Which destination should couples choose for their first trip together?
Fez suits a short city break with a single place to stay and a first guided visit in French. Bohinj is a better fit for days outdoors based around a steady home base. First decide whether you want to walk around a city, stay near the water, or drive through a large region; that choice narrows down the destinations better than a romantic label.
Where should couples go in November?
From this selection, we would first consider Fez for sightseeing and Cappadocia for its landscapes, with plans adjusted for possible cold weather and balloon cancellations. Alentejo also suits a stay focused on heritage and food, provided you are prepared for changeable weather. For Bohinj and the Westfjords, plan specifically for transportation and cold-season activities.
Can you plan these stays without a car?
In Fez, an itinerary centered on the medina is mostly on foot. In Bohinj, feasibility depends on your accommodation and the transport schedules on your travel dates. In Cappadocia, some activities include transfers; check each route. In rural Alentejo and the Westfjords, an organized tour or a driver can replace days of driving, but include the cost from the outset.
Is the hot-air balloon ride private for two?
The experience featured here is shared. For it to meet this expectation, the word “private” must explicitly apply to the flight and the basket; a private transfer alone is not enough. Also check the physical participation requirements and plan another activity in case the flight is canceled due to weather.
What budget should two people plan for?
The budget depends mainly on your dates, transport to the destination, and how you get around. Calculate a total for both travelers, all nights, and local transportation, then add the priority activities. Available prices, currencies, and ratings appear in the main listings; compare private and shared services on the same basis for the number of travelers.
Do Iceland’s baths guarantee privacy?
The pools mentioned are shared spaces. They let you bathe together while taking in the scenery, though crowds vary. If you want exclusive use, check for a service that clearly states this and specifies a reserved time slot. Above all, choose a pool in the area where you are traveling so you can spend more time there.
