The National Costume competition, the preliminaries and the Miss Universe 2026 final are scheduled for November 21, 22 and 24 at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot. To enjoy San Juan as well, we suggest choosing one base, planning sightseeing mornings and taking one major excursion on a day that does not conflict with the evening events. Here is how to choose your tickets, neighborhood and pace for the trip.
Miss Universe 2026 dates
Three dates make it possible to plan the trip. Saturday, November 21 is dedicated to National Costumes, Sunday, November 22 to the preliminaries, and Tuesday, November 24 to the final. The ticketing page linked from the Coliseo’s official website clearly specifies the year 2026. Miss Universe’s initial announcement, published in September 2025, had already placed the anniversary edition in Puerto Rico in November; the venue’s page now provides the dates you need to book.
The National Costumes will be of particular interest to fans of design and staging. The preliminaries offer a chance to follow another stage of the competition, while the final brings the anticipation of the result to a head. If your trip revolves around a contestant or delegation, choose the sessions you genuinely want to attend before deciding how many nights to book. Attending several shows also means several late returns to the hotel and less time for full days out.
The official page shows conflicting start times for the final: its schedule lists 7 p.m., but the detailed text says 8 p.m. The first two evenings are listed at 7 p.m. For November 24, rely on the time shown on your ticket and the organizer’s latest instructions. A city visit can remain flexible; transport to a show venue should be arranged based on a confirmed time.
There is no session scheduled in this program for Monday, November 23. That day is available for the trip, with no additional show to assume. We recommend keeping at least part of the day free to rest or revisit a neighborhood. If the final is your priority, arriving before the 24th gives you a buffer for transport delays and lets you get your bearings before the evening.
Tickets and packages
The Coliseo page links to official purchases for each session and to two bundled packages. “Universe Experience” combines National Costumes, the preliminaries and the final. “Premium Experience” includes the evenings of November 21 and 22. This second package is therefore suited to those coming for the first two stages; if you also want to attend the final, check exactly what is included in your cart.
Your choice depends on your interest in the competition, but also on how much time you want to leave for Puerto Rico. Attending only the final leaves more days and evenings free for companions. Three sessions give the trip a fuller focus. In a group with different interests, everyone can choose their own program, then meet up for a day in Old San Juan or a shared excursion.
Compare the categories on the seating map provided for your chosen session. The position relative to the stage, the level and any special seat conditions matter as much as the package name. Keep the session, date, section and sales conditions in your confirmation. The word “experience” alone does not establish that a meet-and-greet with contestants or backstage access is included; if you want these benefits, they must be explicitly listed among the inclusions.
The prices shown on the page exclude IVU and service fees. The cart’s final amount is therefore the figure to use in your budget. No ticket price for the competition is quoted here: seat category, session and fees should be considered together at the time of purchase. The excursions suggested below are booked separately and include no admission to Miss Universe.
The evening at the Coliseo
The Coliseo José Miguel Agrelot is located at 500 Arterial B, San Juan. Save this address and the venue’s full name in your transport app. Old San Juan and Isla Verde Beach are different places to stay from the show venue: plan the trip to the Coliseo for each evening, allowing extra time for traffic and security checks.
For the trip there, set a meeting time early enough to arrive without rushing, find your entrance and present your ticket. Have a meal before leaving if you need to eat dinner at a regular time. For the return, agree on an easily identifiable meeting point with your companions, then follow traffic instructions around the venue. If you are using prearranged transport, confirm the pickup arrangements with the driver rather than waiting until the show ends to work them out.
The ticketing page requires a ticket downloaded to a digital wallet. A photo of the ticket is not accepted at the entrance. Prepare your phone before leaving the hotel, check that the pass opens correctly and make sure you have enough battery for entry and the return trip. A screenshot saved in your photo gallery does not meet the venue’s published requirement.
The bag policy is also worth reading before deciding what to wear. The venue allows clear bags up to a maximum size of 12 × 6 × 12 inches, as well as small clutches up to 4.5 × 6.5 inches. It lists several prohibited items, including professional cameras, selfie sticks, tablets, computers, perfumes and food. Prepare a small bag suitable for the evening; beach gear and excursion equipment can stay at your accommodation.
Where to stay
For this trip, staying at one address makes planning easier: you avoid repacking between sessions and keep a stable place to return to. First choose the kind of daytime setting you want, then check the route to the Coliseo. A hotel’s commercial name may mention San Juan even when it is in another municipality in the metropolitan area, particularly Carolina in the case of Isla Verde. Check the full address before comparing distances.
Old San Juan suits those who want to step outside and walk among historic streets, plazas, and fortifications. You can start exploring in the morning without making an initial transfer. Hotel El Convento, at 100 Calle del Cristo, is an example of this option: the property occupies a former 17th-century Carmelite convent. Its appeal for this trip is its historic location. Check its rates and room availability for the competition dates directly; no availability is assumed here.
Isla Verde is a better fit for a stay that combines performances with time by the water. Royal Sonesta San Juan, at 5961 Isla Verde Avenue in Carolina, advertises direct beach access and a pool. This base may appeal to companions who want easy days on site. Getting to the Coliseo is still a separate part of the evening, so plan for it without relying on an unannounced special shuttle.
Condado may also be worth comparing if you are looking for an urban address near the coast. To compare neighborhoods, consider the amenities you will actually use: breakfast, a pool, nearby dining, a late-opening front desk, and somewhere to leave your luggage on the final day. A pool offers an alternative when sea conditions are unsuitable for swimming. For children, flexible meal options and the room layout deserve as much attention as the view.
Extra fees can change how hotels rank. Royal Sonesta lists separate resort fees and paid parking, among other charges. Compare the full cost of the stay, including taxes and extras, and read the cancellation terms before paying. A slightly cheaper room that requires more travel will not always be the best choice for three evenings. None of the hotels mentioned here is presented as the competition’s official accommodation.
Travel and entry requirements
If you are departing from France, look up the full itinerary to San Juan and also check the rules of any country where you will transit. Allow extra time when your journey involves multiple flights. Arriving on the day of your first session leaves little room for delays; for a week focused on the competition, we recommend settling in before November 21.
Puerto Rico follows U.S. entry requirements. Travelers eligible for the Visa Waiver Program may make a short tourist stay with the appropriate authorization and required documents. CBP states that the program allows stays of up to 90 days and recommends applying for ESTA as you prepare for the trip. Eligibility depends on your personal circumstances, nationality, passport, and the program’s requirements: check your situation on official websites before making nonrefundable purchases.
ESTA authorizes travel under the program; admission is decided by officials upon arrival. Keep your accommodation details and return-travel arrangements with your travel documents. If your itinerary passes through another country, its transit requirements apply in addition to those of your destination. Families should check each traveler’s situation, including children, rather than treating the group as a single application.
Finally, plan for insurance that covers medical expenses, your chosen activities, and the terms for interrupting your stay. An excursion involving swimming and caves should be reviewed under its own terms. For a major booking on your trip, consider the performance ticket, flight, and hotel policies together: being able to cancel one does not mean the other two will be refunded.
Old San Juan and its forts
The easiest day to fit between performances is a day in Old San Juan. Its streets, plazas, and ramparts offer an itinerary you can shorten depending on how tired you are or extend with a meal. Start by identifying the fortifications you want to visit, then leave your itinerary open enough to enjoy the streets instead of packing in too many appointments.
The National Park Service protects the Castillo San Felipe del Morro, Castillo San Cristóbal, much of the city walls, and the San Juan Gate. These structures illustrate the city’s strategic role in trade between the Atlantic and Spain’s possessions in the Americas. El Morro helps explain the defense of the harbor entrance; San Cristóbal adds to your understanding of the fortification system. If military history interests you, it is worth planning to visit both.
The NPS lists an individual ticket valid for 24 hours at both fortifications. You can therefore visit them on the same day or schedule the second visit within that window, taking actual opening hours into account. The park authority indicates that payment is cashless and that admission is free for children 15 and under. For a detailed plan, check the park’s current alerts and hours: your performance time should remain the fixed point in your schedule.
We suggest spending the first part of the morning at one fort, taking a break around midday, then strolling through the historic streets. If you have an evening performance, one indoor visit may be enough. A second morning lets you return without turning the ramparts into a timed course. Comfortable walking shoes, water, and sun protection make this pace more enjoyable.
The neighborhood also deserves time without a booked entry. A facade, a shady plaza, or a view of the walls may be worth stopping for. For lunch, choose a place whose service hours fit your schedule, and ask staff directly about allergies. On a performance day, eating early enough leaves time to return to your hotel before heading to the Coliseo.
Days by the coast
A week of competition already includes several highlights. A day by the water gives companions a more flexible plan and avoids adding a long excursion to every available date. Isla Verde may be convenient if you are staying there; you can also choose a stretch of San Juan’s coastline based on your accommodation and how much time you want to spend traveling.
Distinguish between wanting to enjoy the beach and deciding to swim. Check the sea, warnings, and local guidance before entering the water. For children or less confident swimmers, the accommodation’s pool can be the main activity. An hotel’s direct access to the shore describes its location; sea conditions still need to be assessed on the day.
For Monday, November 23, we recommend keeping the schedule light if you are attending all three evenings: a morning of your choice, a relaxed lunch, and an open afternoon. This break also gives you room to reschedule a visit interrupted by rain. Keeping half a day free can make a real difference on a trip where two consecutive evenings are followed by a final two days later.
If you want to extend your trip to an island or another region of Puerto Rico, plan a separate leg with its own overnight stays and transportation after the competition. For the core of your stay, using San Juan as a base avoids making an important session depend on a more complicated round trip. The itinerary proposed here stays within the metropolitan area and focuses on two outings that can be done separately.
Night kayaking in Fajardo
The kayak outing in Fajardo offers a different kind of experience from urban days. The activity offered by Yokahu Kayak Trips follows a canal lined with mangroves before reaching the bioluminescent lagoon. The light seen in the water depends on a natural phenomenon; its intensity varies. Choose this activity for the entire evening outing and the guided experience in the reserve, while keeping expectations in line with the conditions on the day.
The listing reviewed describes a two-hour activity with guides speaking English or Spanish. The meeting point is in Fajardo, at Yokahu Kayak Trips, and the operator asks participants to arrive 30 minutes before departure. Transportation from your San Juan hotel therefore needs to be arranged separately. Check both the outbound and return trips before booking, especially for an activity that ends after nightfall.
Equipment includes kayaks, paddles, and life jackets. The kayaks are tandem; for an odd-numbered group, the operator may pair one participant with someone else. The listing says everyone must be able to paddle and complete the outing. It sets a minimum age of six, a maximum weight of 245 pounds per person, and health requirements, and excludes pregnant travelers. Contact the operator with any specific questions before purchasing.
Schedule this excursion for an evening without a competition event, for example before the first show or after the final if you extend your stay. Monday the 23rd may work for travelers who prioritize this activity and have arranged transportation, but it leaves less time to rest between sessions. For a first week-long visit, we prefer scheduling it before the 21st to keep the competition schedule more flexible.

View activityThe Caves of Vega Baja
For an active day out, the excursion to Charco Azul and Cuevas Arenales explores a different landscape in Puerto Rico, in Vega Baja. The itinerary combines hiking, wading through water, and caves. It is suited to travelers looking to spend a full day on a physically demanding outing, with a guide and the advertised equipment. Book this day if these activities are genuinely a good fit for your group.
The Viator listing reviewed describes an approximately seven-hour trip, including transportation from a designated meeting point. Guides speak English and Spanish. The meeting point listed is the parking lot of a Pueblo supermarket; your confirmation details should help you find the right location. This is a group tour. The mention of private transportation under inclusions describes the vehicle used; it does not make the entire excursion private.
Helmets and life jackets are among the included equipment. The itinerary includes swimming and activities in natural settings that require an appropriate level of fitness. Check the health restrictions, and contact the operator directly about your needs if you are unsure whether you can participate. The advertised duration includes travel time: set aside a full day, followed by an evening without any major commitments after your return.
For the proposed trip, this outing fits best before the first sessions or after the final, with an extra night. We advise against combining it with an evening at the Coliseo: the return time, fatigue, and time needed to get ready would make the schedule unnecessarily tight. Between Fajardo and Vega Baja, first choose the experience that appeals to you most; a varied week is possible with just one of the two.

View activityA Week Around the Competition
To attend all three evenings, a stay from November 19 to 25 offers a clear itinerary, to be adjusted based on the flights actually available. Use the 19th for arrival and settling in. Keep dinner nearby. The 20th can be spent exploring Old San Juan or on an excursion, depending on your arrival time the day before and your energy level. Suggested sightseeing durations here are a matter of pacing, not implied reservations.
On Saturday the 21st, opt for a short morning: part of the fortifications or a few streets in the historic center, then return to the hotel. Keep the afternoon free to rest, have an early dinner, and get ready to leave for the national costume competition. Follow the same approach on Sunday the 22nd, with a nearby activity or some time at the pool before the preliminary competition. Two consecutive shows are a good reason to keep the mornings intentionally light.
Monday the 23rd is the most flexible day. You can finish exploring Old San Juan, enjoy the coast, or book Fajardo if kayaking is a priority and transportation is arranged. Keep Tuesday the 24th simple before the final. Check your ticket time and the venue’s instructions again. The 25th can be a departure day or the start of an extension focused on excursions.
To fit in the caves of Vega Baja without giving up rest, extend your stay by a day before the 21st or after the 24th. Another option is to attend only the final and free up the preceding days. Companions attending just one session can follow this second schedule. Staying in one base makes it possible to follow different itineraries without changing hotels repeatedly.
Budget and Connectivity
Build your budget from identified expenses: flights and their conditions, hotel nights and resort fees, tickets and taxes, transportation, and any excursions. The accommodation total should include mandatory extras; use the final checkout total for show tickets. Prices and reviews for selected activities are grouped in their cards. When comparing options, include transportation to the meeting point if it is not included.
A rental car can be useful for an independent extension, but the single-base itinerary presented here can be arranged with booked transportation and guided outings. If you are considering a vehicle, add the rental, selected insurance, fuel, and hotel parking. For three evenings, also decide who will drive. We are not providing a car rental rate without a search matching your dates and vehicle category.
Mobile connectivity is useful for meeting points, transportation, and keeping in touch with your companions. The Airalo Puerto Rico plan selected for our recommendations provides 10 GB for 15 days. First check whether your current plan already covers the destination, then confirm eSIM compatibility and that your phone is unlocked. This plan covers data; the calling and messaging terms of your usual line need to be checked separately.
Install the eSIM with a stable connection, following the provider’s instructions, and keep essential documents accessible on your phone. For your Coliseo ticket, set up the digital wallet required by the organizer. A sufficiently charged battery and a way to look up your hotel address make getting back easier. Compare plans in the same currency and check for any currency conversion fees from your payment method before purchasing.

November Weather
November is still part of the Atlantic hurricane season, which officially ends on November 30, according to the National Hurricane Center. This general timeframe does not predict the weather during the competition evenings. Check forecasts and alerts before departure and throughout your stay, and keep your plans flexible enough to accommodate a change to an outdoor activity.
For sightseeing, a light rain layer, suitable shoes, and a way to keep your phone dry are useful. For activities in the water or caves, follow the operator’s instructions and decisions about conditions on the day. If an excursion is canceled, historic streets, a leisurely meal, or some time at the hotel offer alternative plans without requiring a significant new commitment.
Flexible bookings can provide welcome flexibility, provided you read the deadlines and covered reasons. Keep confirmations and provider contact details. The competition, hotel, and each excursion have their own terms. The open day in the itinerary makes it possible to reschedule a visit, but it does not replace the protections included in your booking agreements.
FAQ
What are the dates for Miss Universe 2026 in San Juan?
The Coliseo’s official ticketing site lists the national costumes on November 21, the preliminaries on November 22, and the final on November 24, 2026. All three sessions take place at the Coliseo José Miguel Agrelot. The page shows two different times for the final: check the time on your ticket and the latest instructions before setting out.
Which ticket includes the final?
You can choose the final show alone or consider the “Universe Experience” package, advertised with all three evenings. The “Premium Experience” package covers November 21 and 22. Check what is included, the seats, and the total including taxes and fees in your cart before confirming; none of the sightseeing activities in this guide includes pageant admission.
Where should you stay for the shows and sightseeing?
Old San Juan is well suited to exploring historic sites on foot; Isla Verde is better suited to beach time and resort amenities. Condado can also be considered for urban accommodations near the coast. Choose one base and check the journey to the Coliseo separately, without assuming the hotel offers special transportation.
Do you need to rent a car for this week?
The proposed itinerary does not require one: city visits, pre-booked transportation, and a guided excursion may be sufficient. For Fajardo, the selected kayak experience requires you to get to the meeting point. The Vega Baja excursion includes transportation from a designated pickup point. Compare these needs with the total cost of a rental and parking.
Can children attend the evening shows?
The event listing requires anyone aged 15 or younger to be accompanied at all times by an adult aged 21 or older. A ticket is required from age two. Check the show’s instructions and seating options suited to your family; excursion age requirements are separate, with a minimum age of six for the selected kayak tour.
Are the recommended excursions available in French?
The two listings consulted offer guides in English and Spanish. Choose a language the participants understand, especially for on-water safety instructions. The Fajardo kayak tour lasts two hours, excluding transportation from San Juan; the Vega Baja outing takes about seven hours, including the advertised transportation from its meeting point.
How many nights should you plan to stay in San Juan?
Six nights, for example from November 19 to 25, let you arrive before the three shows and leave time to explore the city. For one additional major excursion and more time to rest, add a night before or after the pageant. If you are coming only for the final, the number of nights depends mainly on the sightseeing you want to do and your flight times.
What documents should a French traveler check?
Check the U.S. requirements that apply to your situation: passport, eligibility for the Visa Waiver Program and ESTA, or a visa when required. CBP recommends starting the ESTA process as soon as you begin planning your trip. Also check the transit rules for your itinerary and the documents required for children; travel authorization does not guarantee admission upon arrival.
Can you visit Puerto Rico in November?
Plan your stay around the announced event, with flexible sightseeing and an eye on the forecast. November is still within the Atlantic’s official hurricane season. Book outdoor activities with their cancellation terms in mind and leave free time to reschedule a visit; climate data cannot predict the weather for your week.
