Porto for a few days between the riverfront and the port wine cellars; Marrakech with a proper stop in the Sahara; Tbilisi for the city and vineyards; Oulu for light art; Seoul for walks and markets: here are five ways to travel in November. The choice depends on how long you can spend there, the climate you’re looking for and the experience that’s prompting your trip.

Destinations by trip length

By late October, autumn trips are already taking shape around very different experiences. In Seoul, walks may still coincide with the changing colors of the trees in early November. In Oulu, art installations make use of the darkness. In southern Morocco, it’s a good season for a stay among the dunes. In Portugal and Georgia, cellars and wine-country landscapes remain appealing after the harvest. Bundling all these ideas under a single promise of sunshine or low prices would mean choosing for the wrong reasons.

For a four-day trip, we favor Porto, with most of the stay devoted to the city. Oulu is also worth a short trip when connections allow you to spend several days there and the festival dates fit your availability. With five to seven days, Tbilisi makes a good base for alternating city visits with an excursion to Kakheti. A week in Morocco allows four days for the trip to Merzouga while leaving time in Marrakech. For Seoul, we recommend having eight to ten days available, so the long-haul journey doesn’t squeeze all the sightseeing into too little time.

These suggested durations are ways to divide your time, excluding any extra travel days. Check actual schedules: a late arrival and an early departure can take almost two days out of a trip advertised as four days long. In that case, it’s worth choosing accommodation for its location, transport links and evening plans. Each base below works for independent walks; bookable activities serve a specific purpose without filling every day of the trip.

Porto, Gaia and the Douro

Porto suits travelers who want to connect hilly streets, riverbanks, and a wine discovery without changing hotels. Ribeira offers a first landmark along the Douro; across the river, Vila Nova de Gaia is home to the port wine lodges. The Luís I Bridge makes it easy to take in this geography at a glance. To plan four days, spend the first two exploring both riverbanks, with breaks and indoor visits between walks.

A lodge in Gaia is an easy activity to schedule when the weather makes spending part of the day indoors appealing. Taylor’s, for example, offers an audio-guided tour in French through its cellars. The visit explains the history of the house and port wine production; it takes place in Gaia. The Douro’s vineyard hills require a separate trip. This distinction helps you decide whether your stay needs an excursion or whether discovering the city already satisfies your curiosity.

To see the vineyards and hills, we recommend a six-hour tour departing from Porto, with a cellar visit, tasting, lunch, and a scenic stop. French is one of the languages offered; hotel pickup depends on the option selected. For a short trip, the appeal lies in a program focused on wine and a meal, without packing in too many activities. Check the meeting point and the departure language before booking, then leave the evening free for your return.

In November, choose this outing for the scenery, explanations, and wines. Taking part in the harvest requires a dated offer from the estate; a general cellar tour does not mean that harvest activities are included. Likewise, the colors of the hills change with the season and the plot. For a first trip, the quality of the visit matters more than expecting a particular photograph of golden foliage.

Bring shoes suited to steep slopes and a rain jacket, and keep one day flexible between neighborhoods, wine lodges, and heritage sites. If you are not very interested in wine, spend that time in Porto rather than on a tasting excursion. If you are traveling with family, check the arrangements for children and how much of the visits they will actually be able to take part in. Our guide to Douro excursions covers options with more estates or a boat trip in greater detail.

Marrakech and the dunes of Merzouga

Morocco suits travelers looking for drier landscapes and days spent mostly outdoors. The Moroccan National Tourist Office recommends spring and autumn for exploring the Sahara. This is a recommendation about the travel season; you will still need to check the forecast before departure, especially for crossing the mountains and spending nights at camp. In Marrakech, walks through the medina can be combined with gardens, visits, and breaks at your accommodation.

The itinerary changes considerably when the dunes become the main reason for your trip. Merzouga lies in the Erg Chebbi area in the southeast of the country. To include it from Marrakech, we recommend a week, with four days devoted to the circuit, rather than a short city break to which the desert is hastily added. You can spend time in the medina before setting off and leave a buffer before your flight home.

The selected tour is a shared four-day circuit, with the first night in the Dadès area and the next two nights near the desert. The route includes Aït Ben Haddou, the Todra Gorge, and Merzouga. An extra day there gives you more time in the dunes area. Long stretches on the road are part of the tour: check the schedule for each day and choose this trip if you are also interested in seeing the changing landscapes along the way.

French is one of the languages offered. The listing includes transport, accommodation, three breakfasts, and three dinners; budget for lunches, drinks, and personal expenses. Ask for details about the camp, bathroom facilities, room arrangements, and the transfer to your sleeping quarters. These details affect comfort more than a simple category label. If you are traveling with children or anyone sensitive to long journeys, also discuss breaks and time spent sitting.

At camp, bring warm clothes for the evening and morning, even if your suitcase is mostly filled with lightweight outfits for Marrakech. A windproof layer, closed-toe shoes, and sun protection belong in the same bag. Pack according to the provider’s instructions, keeping the items you need for the night easy to reach.

If you only have three or four days, stay around Marrakech and choose an outing that fits that timeframe. You can spend more time in the city or take a nearby excursion. An Agafay itinerary involves different scenery and travel time from those of Erg Chebbi. Any tour marketed as a “desert” experience should specify the exact location and how long it takes to get there.

Tbilisi and the wines of Kakheti

Tbilisi is well suited to a five-to-seven-day stay for travelers who enjoy exploring a city on foot, stopping for meals, and spending a day in a nearby region. Sulfur baths, balconied houses, churches, and viewpoints make for a varied city itinerary. The old town is built on steep terrain: when choosing accommodation, also consider the slope on your final walk back, especially if you plan to return on foot often.

Kakheti adds another dimension to the trip. Georgia Travel highlights the Alazani Valley, monasteries, and a strong winemaking tradition, particularly the qvevri, the vessels used for wine. One day is enough to visit a few places and learn about a method of production; two days may make sense if you want to stay in the region and visit several wineries. In late autumn, book based on the visits actually available, without assuming that harvest activities will still be offered.

To keep Tbilisi as your only base, we recommend a nine-hour excursion to Bodbe, Sighnaghi, and Telavi, with tastings. English and Russian are offered, and lunch is separate. The tour departs from a meeting point in the city, with no hotel pickup. Confirm the location and your language with the organizer, then set aside the whole day for the outing. It suits first-time visitors looking for a mix of heritage and wine, with transport arranged between stops.

In Tbilisi, leave at least two days free of excursions for the old neighborhoods, views from Metekhi, and a possible bath booked according to the establishment’s terms. Walks, meals, and visits are better suited to a flexible pace than a succession of early starts. For November, we recommend focusing on the city and Kakheti; a trip centered on high-mountain roads requires specific preparation for access and current conditions.

Check entry requirements before booking. France Diplomatie states that health and accident insurance has been mandatory for foreign visitors since January 1, 2026, with a minimum coverage of 30,000 GEL and a certificate in English or Georgian. The ministry also recommends avoiding gatherings amid recurring demonstrations and notes that network disruptions are possible. Review this guidance before departure, keep your documents available offline, and allow flexibility for getting around the city.

Oulu and the Lumo Festival

Oulu is for travelers whose departure dates can be shaped by a cultural program. As European Capital of Culture in 2026, the Finnish city hosts Lumo Art & Tech from November 13 to 22. The official program brings together light, sound and digital arts at several venues. The city’s light festival takes place from November 19 to 22: this period deserves particular attention if you are mainly coming for works in urban spaces.

Plan for three or four nights to have several evenings available and some flexibility around transport. Staying centrally makes it easier to return between events, get meals and take warm-up breaks. During the day, you can go for a walk, visit an exhibition or stop at a café; in the evening, choose an area or a few works based on that day’s program. This works better than trying to map out an exhaustive route through every festival venue.

The organizer notes that most events are free and open to all. Some, however, require a ticket or registration, as indicated on their listings. So check each event that motivates your trip before settling on your travel dates. A date between November 13 and 22 does not mean that every installation and performance runs every evening. Also check the languages of the talks if you would like to attend.

For families, visual works and exhibitions offer different possibilities from a show with a fixed start time. Plan a short evening around what genuinely interests the children, with an easy-to-reach indoor break. Pack warm clothes, gloves and shoes suited to the condition of the streets. The weather may affect how long a walk feels comfortable; it need not force you to give up the entire program.

Choose Oulu for its arts and the Nordic atmosphere of November. The chance of seeing the Northern Lights depends on viewing conditions and is not guaranteed during your stay. None of the affiliated products in this guide serves as a ticket to Lumo: any registrations and ticket sales are listed in the official program. The confirmed dates apply to this 2026 edition and do not automatically carry over to the following year.

Seoul, Namsan and the markets

Seoul lets you combine a busy city trip with seasonal walks. For autumn colors, the official listing for the southern Namsan trail gives the usual period as late October to early November. It describes a 1.3-kilometer route lined with plane trees, open to the public. This offers a guide for the first days of the month; the actual timing of the foliage depends on the year and location.

If you can travel in early November, make Namsan one of your first walks, after checking current conditions. Then leave several days for neighborhoods, palaces and markets, depending on your interests. We recommend having eight to ten days available so that flights and recovery time still leave enough time to explore the city. You can add a day trip during your stay, choosing it for what it offers rather than for a general promise of autumn scenery.

A food tour at Mangwon Market is an outing that does not depend on the color of the trees. The selected experience lasts two and a half hours, with an English-speaking guide and small bites chosen by the host. The meeting point is outside Exit 2 of Mangwon Station. The tastings let you try several dishes with explanations, after which you can continue your day in this part of the city. Book it once you have settled back into a comfortable meal routine after the trip.

Discuss dietary requirements before purchasing: a route with several dishes and stops requires precise confirmation of what accommodations are possible. Do the same for participants’ ages and the cancellation terms for your option. The current listing includes a stop for fried chicken and may use the riverside setting when the weather allows; build your plans around the market, which remains the heart of the experience.

Later in November, you can still plan a trip to Korea by giving more space to cultural visits and indoor activities. If the weather is nice, take an extra walk. This flexibility keeps a long trip from depending on a single week of foliage. To compare a day trip to Suwon, Nami or a mountain area, our selection of excursions from Seoul details what each includes and how much travel is involved.

Budget and bookings

Compare the five trips on the same basis: transport from home, baggage, the nights you actually need, transfers, meals, visits and insurance. An excursion that includes lunch and transport replaces some of your day’s expenses; an outing departing from a distant meeting point may add to them. For Merzouga, check which nights and meals are already included in the tour before booking accommodation separately. For Oulu, first check the cost of transport and the nights that align with the festival.

Prices and activity ratings appear on their cards, based on the provider’s central data. Check the price for your date, number of participants and chosen option. A private outing may be priced for the group, while a shared excursion is charged per person. Pay attention to the displayed currency as well: your payment method may add currency-conversion fees to the booking price.

To set priorities, first choose the experience that matters most. The festival sets the dates for Oulu; a specific interest in autumn foliage points more toward early November in Seoul; the Sahara requires setting aside four days during your week in Morocco. In Porto and Tbilisi, you can keep more flexibility around a single guided day. Then book transport and accommodation that fit these choices, followed by secondary activities.

Before departure, review the entry requirements and official guidance relevant to your nationality. Download confirmations, addresses and any necessary certificates. Plan one indoor activity and one walk for each base so you can move a visit without rebuilding the whole itinerary. Above all, this gives you more time to enjoy the places: a simple day with one well-chosen visit and a relaxed meal may be reason enough to make the trip.

FAQ

Where to go in November 2026 for four days?

Porto is our first choice for four days focused on a city, with both banks of the Douro and a visit to a wine cellar. A wine-country excursion can take up a day if it is one of your priorities. Oulu also works for a short cultural trip during Lumo, provided transport connections leave you with several useful days on site. Seoul and a Marrakech–Merzouga tour need more time to balance travel and sightseeing.

Which destination should you choose for sunshine?

Of these options, southern Morocco is the best fit if you want desert scenery and time outdoors. The tourism board recommends autumn for the Sahara. Check the forecast for your route and pack warm clothes for the nights. Porto, Tbilisi and Seoul are chosen mainly for sightseeing and walks; Oulu for its Nordic cultural program. None of these trips guarantees a week of good weather.

Can you still see autumn colors in Seoul in November?

Early November is still consistent with the usual period Visit Seoul gives for the southern Namsan trail. The exact peak varies from year to year, and trees in the same area may change at different times. Check recent reports before departure and keep the walk flexible in your itinerary. For a later trip, prioritize neighborhoods, palaces and markets, with any remaining colors as an added possibility.

Can you take part in the Douro grape harvest in November?

You need an activity specifically advertised and confirmed by an estate for your date. A general excursion that includes a cellar visit and tasting does not prove that a harvest is offered. The experience selected here is for discovering the wine landscape, wine and a lunch, without any promise of grape harvesting. You can choose it for those elements and arrange a possible harvest activity separately, but only after receiving written confirmation.

How many days should you plan for Merzouga from Marrakech?

The selected tour lasts four days and includes two nights in the desert area, after a first night in the Dades Valley. We recommend fitting it into a trip of about a week to leave time in Marrakech and a buffer before your return flight. The long drives are part of the trip. If you have only three or four days of vacation in total, staying in Marrakech and taking a nearby outing will make for a more balanced itinerary.

What are the dates for Lumo in Oulu, and do I need a ticket?

Lumo Art & Tech runs from November 13 to 22, 2026. The official program lists the urban light festival from November 19 to 22. Most events are free, but some require registration or a ticket. Check each event listing before booking your trip, as days and times vary. Viator excursions mentioned in other destinations do not provide access to this event.

What insurance do I need to travel to Georgia in 2026?

According to France Diplomatie, since January 1, 2026, foreign visitors must have health and accident insurance covering the duration of their stay, with a minimum coverage of 30,000 GEL. The certificate must be written in English or Georgian and be available for presentation at the border. Check with your insurer that the document meets these requirements; having a bank card does not establish that the required certificate is available.

Which destination will be the cheapest?

The ranking depends on your departure airport, dates, baggage, and number of nights. Compare the total cost of two or three trip options rather than a national daily price. A short stay can become expensive if connections are poorly timed; a tour that includes transport and accommodation bundles several expenses. Set a budget for the main bookings, then add meals and activities that are genuinely excluded from the offers you compare.
